Lab Update Oct 11 2020

October is off to a great start!

TIME FOR FAMILY HUDDLE ZOOMS-EMAIL YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER TO SCHEDULE ASAP

Mr. T and Ms. Kathryn will be holding family huddles over the next two weeks where you can talk with them about your homeschooling and your and your child's homeschooling support needs.

Please email Mr. T at Torry.thompson@lablearning.org or Ms. Kathryn and kathryn.forrest@lablearning.org to set-up a time for a 30-minute Zoom session with them this week or next.

MS. KATHRYN'S CLASS K-3RD

This week students in Ms. Kathryn's class learned about similes using as and like, measured the pumpkins, ghosts and skeletons they are creating for Halloween, learned about the scientific method as they continue to run an experiment comparing the growth of a sweet potato with sunlight and without, created an "inch worm" habitat and started seeds to plant in the back garden.

Take a minute to watch this 3-minute video for a peek into Ms. Kathryn's magical classroom!

MR. T's CLASS 4th-8th

In Mr. T's class, students are continuing to learn reading strategies, are reading books 30-min each day using these strategies, and are continuing to work on their persuasive article in writer's workshop.

Students are moving into their second milestone of their Extreme Weather Shark Tank project in Curiosity studio. Last week they completed "heating the planet" - where they learned about the differences between climate and weather, extreme weather, climate and weather issues in New Zealand and worked on improving their project "protocol" by soliciting feedback from their peers. This week they will compare the climate data from Rome and New York City, learn how air and water circulate on the planet, and learn how to "mark up" a research article they are studying.

In the afternoon, Mr. T's students work on their homeschool platforms and for our students who have Public School Affidavits (PSAs) they work on our Summit platform.

Stay tuned for a peek inside Mr. T's classroom via video next week.

BE SURE TO FILE A PSA THIS MONTH IF YOU ARE NOT PLANNING ON ENROLLING IN A FORMAL CHARTER SCHOOL

If your child is not enrolled in a charter school, a reminder that you should file for a PSA this month or the state will consider your child truant. There are links on our website with information or email bertha.leon@lablearning.org and she can assist.

Best,

Lyndee & Mr. T
