Dear Lab Families,
SAVE THE DATE! This Thursday, September 19th is BACK TO CLASS NIGHT at THE LAB from 6:00-8:00. Join us to learn about your child's teacher's plans for the fall, how we work with your homeschool charters, meet other families and have fun!
It’s been a great 1st week and a half of Fall classes! We are so excited that you and your child are a part of our community!
CLASSES. Baseline academic testing is over and our students were champs! We will be using the results of the NWEA in our Family Huddles (coming in early October) to design a personalized curriculum that aligns with the interests and needs of your child and you! We will also use them to evaluate and continually improve our curriculum.
This week Mr. T, Perri, Robn and Katrina will begin moving into our regular class schedule - with writer’s and reader’s workshops, word salad (english language arts), PBL curiosity studios, and on-line study jams (math, social studies, science, history) taking off in full force!
VISIT BY THE PARKLAND TEENS. This week as part of The Lab’s Young People Changing the World program, our students had the opportunity to meet with three of the Parkland Florida Teens, hear the inspiring music they have written to turn their pain into power, and learn how young people like themselves are changing our world for the better! Click the link to see a short video of the Teen’s visit and hear Marisol, Sofia and Payton perform their beautiful song, Children will Lead the Way. https://vimeo.com/359205317
HELP US “FILL-THE-GAP" - MAKE A MONTHLY DONATION TO THE LAB THIS IS URGENT. As many of you know, last Spring all enrichment programs across the state were dealt a devastating financial blow due to political battles raging in the state against charter programs and the closure of a large charter school operator. Many vendors and enrichment programs like ours were forced to close their doors due to lack of funding.
Not us, however. The Lab decided to stay open and fight despite the budget cuts! To survive the dramatic hit to our budget, we considered implementing a mandatory monthly fee but decided against this because we do not want to create a barrier for families who can not afford a fee to attend the Lab. In lieu of this, we have chosen to embark on an ambitious fundraising effort - $75,000 over 6 months -- to “fill the gap” in our annual budget. Because of this, we are asking that each Lab Family be a Lab Superhero and become a monthly sponsor to the Lab. If each Lab family were able to commit $200 a month to sponsor the Lab over the next 12 months, this would ”fill the gap” in our funding for this academic year and assure our ability to continue to offer the wonderful programming we’ve become known for.
This said, we know that not every family can support The Lab at this level, and no donation is too small and or too large. We ask that each of you consider making a monthly pledge to support The Lab at a level that is feasible for you and your family. But we are asking that you do this NOW! Early donations are what will make all the difference in what will be possible for us in the coming months. Click here to make a monthly pledge to the The Lab and help us overcome the impact of the recent cuts in funding! https://www.betterunite.com/LabLearningSpace-annualcampaign
